Having a deep look of the dramatic and mysterious events which happened in this movie that follows Howard E. Rollins Jr., an investigator travels to the base of Louisiana backwoods because one of the black officers kills there. So, he has to walk behind the reason and finds any evidence to condemn the murderer, but when he arrives he sees the community dispersed because of the race and colour.
Charles Fuller adapated to the big screen his powerful Pulitzer prize winning play about the murder of a black captain. Directed by Norman Jewison, the movie is well acted but it's too verbose.
Jewison's lack of interest in developing anything other than his rather debatable ideological point relegates the film to the realm of moderately competent TV drama.
