When their daughter, Julie is born, they reunite.When the children move to the abandoned barn, Ben wants to take Julie home, and nearly hits Dorothy with his car. She tells him Julie doesn't want to go with him, but Ben didn't care she wanted, saying her mother was frantic and he was taking her home. Julie and Mara use their powers to force Ben to return to his car and crash into a gas tank, where he was killed.
