Joe McCoy is the father of J.D. McCoy, the star freshman quarterback who bumps Matt Saracen out of the starting job. McCoy is the quintessentially sports-obsessed dad and becomes something of a nemesis to Coach Taylor, whom he pressures to start his son. McCoy is also the person behind a major shake up in the team's booster club.
