(SPOILERS)Buddy the Night Watchman is shown protecting and comforting Laurie giving her his jacket and coffee. He is killed when he returns to his office with his car to pick up Laurie when he's axed to death. It turns out this was only another one of Laurie's nightmares. Later in the movie we see Laurie talking to her stuffed bear calling it Buddy in which she imintates the bear trying to comfort her like the night guard did. So it's possible the man Buddy in her dream could represent her bear and her protector.
