Mike Turner was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His mother's name is Janet, his father's, Wayne. He has a younger sister, Catherine, and a older brother, Scott. At Queen Elizabeth High School, Turner was heavily involved in sports. Turner attended Dalhousie University, where he majored in economics, with a focus on business. He left university three credits short of graduating, to move to California to study acting, at the prestigious "Stella Adler Academy of Acting". Turner supported himself by teaching tennis, and working as a P.A. His first professional acting role was in the television series, Starhunter (2000).
