The cousin of fellow champion sharpshooter Friedrich "Fritz" Krempel, Erich won a silver medal in the 50 meter pistol event at the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin, Germany. Krempel died at age 79 on September 26, 1992 in Suhl, Germany.
