The writing on The Cool Kids is hit-or-miss, and I would ratchet down the hyperactive laugh track... But the cast is appealing enough to overcome these quibbles.
These are comic vets, in some cases legends, and they will take The Cool Kids to heights that are probably higher than the material or even the format merits.
I'm hoping the mediocre writing can eventually rise to meet the level of the cast, but for now, there are worse ways to spend your Friday nights than with this cozy throwback.
