It is a chain of events epitomized by a British murder detective who is at risk of investigating a strange murder. During that period, this person started a different path when the Nazis won the Second World War, where there are more events.
Director Philipp Kadelbach prefers the twitchy verisimilitude of handheld cameras, as though this alternative history must be persuasive above all, but the story is more contentedly breathless and so stylishly told.
Television can look stranded and exposed on a cinema screen, but it bodes well for SS-GB that the production values held up handsomely in the larger format.
The episode resonates, though not because its characters or story are gripping. It's because of an unignorable question with which it leaves the audience: what would you have done?
