The series revolve around Maria Abascal, a troubled woman that shares her body with the demonic entity Abigail who feeds on the evil Maria exorcises from others. Maria and Abigail share a soul and a destiny, but as Maria tries to overtake him she will realize how far he will go to remain a part of her.
It isn't scary. It looks comically cheap at times. The performances range from inconsistent to fairly awful. And unless the Emmys open up a category for Outstanding Use of Multi-Colored Contact Lenses, it's unlikely to get any real respect.
South of the Hell should give horror junkies enough of a tickle to stave off withdrawal. But it lacks substance. It's an intermezzo, not a full course.
