It is a sequential presentation on the events related to modern drug cultivation and trade that originated in Mexico by returning to its roots in the past and continuing at present. The series presents a documentary look at the work of farmers and independent drug dealers in Mexico. The first drug dealer, Felix Gallardo, is building a large drug-trafficking empire in the Gugalajara cartel, but the deputy drug director Kiki Camarina may be moving to meet their tasks.
Luna is a talent. But Luna had to elevate more choppy writing than his predecessors did in the first three seasons. It seems as if the primary writers for this season weren't sure what kind of gangster they wanted Gallardo to be.
Showrunner Eric Newman has gotten very good at dramatizing the ever-expanding saga of the drug war for television, and the result here are 10 tense, detail-oriented episodes that don't lack for action and drama.
This season... is a wonderful showcase for two talented Latinx actors who've long deserved a high-profile TV project. "Narcos: Mexico" is all that and more, a poignant lesson on the bloody history behind our modern war on drugs.
