Just when you start to feel like Monsterland is going to bum you out more than is really necessary, especially in 2020, along comes "Newark, NJ," which finally offers catharsis for both its characters and the viewer.
Horror anthologies are often dragged down by their worst entries. Though Hulu's Monsterland does feature a couple of duds, it's generally buoyed by the brilliance of its best episodes.
For those with a taste for aliens bleeding like geysers and a man peeling his face skin, welcome, this place is for you. For the rest of us, it's better to stay out.
Honestly, the bleak fairytales told may even feel like they end abruptly for some, but for me, that's their point. There is no hope in Monsterland, that's its strength but its also what will alienate a lot of viewers.
