The strongest impression left by the two-episode premiere is that Wayans' stand-up act is probably hilarious, and that he shouldn't be wasting his time in this loud, broad sitcom.
Although Marlon may not come close in quality and sophistication to, say, Modern Family, or even The Middle, it's modestly enjoyable and a smart move on NBC's part.
Marlon is trying to co-parent his children while navigating an amicable divorce... That reinterpretation of the foundation of the family sitcom makes Marlon a refreshing take on family dynamics. Everything else about it feels pretty standard.
