The second season is full of dramatic surprises and dramatic events, where Dmitri is kidnapped and questioned on suspicion of being a Russian spy and Elizabeth receiving advice from former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and ignoring President Dalton's recommendation regarding the process of negotiating the return of a State Department employee kidnapped in Afghanistan. On the other hand, she became the acting secretary and her daughter was found in a hotel with the president's son and her husband was trying to lure one of his Russian students to turn him into an American spy.
Madam Secretary shines more through its star, Tea Leoni, and its supporting cast, than its stories, which work harder than they probably need to to make the job of secretary of state look interesting.
