This series is a coming of age story about a young man Richard accompanied by a wizard, Zedd and mysterious Woman Kahlan as he tries to stop a blood thirsty, power hungry evil ruler from unleashing his wrath upon the land.
This is not postmodern, camp rompery like Xena or Hercules. It is as if Raimi and his team have contracted RSI of the eyelid and can undertake no more winking for the duration. It is curiously refreshing. E'nj'oy.
Now, the fair thing isn't to judge a show on what I expected it to be, but on what it is. But even on its own merits, "Legend of the Seeker" is a disappointment.
Nothing original. Parents who think this fantasy series may be fine family fare should be warned: Some of the fight scenes are more violent than expected.
Good fun, tailor made for weekend television viewing. Those who tuned in were introduced to a handsome hero, a beautiful heroine, a dastardly villain and lots of sword fighting action.
The series will satisfy fans of the fantasy genre. The fight scenes are exciting, the overarching story gives the characters enough background to be interesting, and the New Zealand locations are stunning.
The show should offend only the purest of purists. It is, basically, good-looking fun, and if I say that much of this might have been written by a 12-year-old, you must understand that I mean that as a good thing.
