An American police procedural drama television series shows that when there is a duty, no one can get back. This applies to Jimmy Marino, the former CIA agent who agrees to return to work when he knows that there is a serious killer police can't catch him and he can help police at this.
The setup isn't groundbreaking, but Cumming's character, who has a husband, Andy (Daniel Ings), who'd rather he stuck to academia, is, if only for the matter-of-factness of that one biographical detail.
But what's most interesting in Instinct is the matter-of-fact presentation of Dylan's personal life as an openly gay married man, whose husband Andy isn't thrilled that Dylan is going back on the field. If he didn't, of course, there'd be no show.
