This series follows a series of events revolving around embarrassing web designer Stuart. As a Englishman, Stewart began moving to Los Angeles in search of fame and VIP parties and perhaps even by finding the woman he would love. Over time, embarrassing Stuart continues in situations that often create him a knot in dealing with women.
Merchant doesn't have something to offer. He's proven time and again to have a spot-on wit and flawless delivery, and hopefully Hello Ladies lives up to his legacy.
Merchant goes solo with Hello Ladies and the result is a series that would have been a whole lot funnier if the cringe-worthy comedy conceit didn't feel completely played out.
If Gervais' antics in The Office and Extras struck your funny bone in a positive way, you might find Merchant's first big Ricky-free foray to be a towering comedy achievement.
Fans of Merchant's usual schtick will find much to like, but this brand of cringe comedy has grown dated and predictable. Still, the lanky funnyman has terrific comic timing and delivery, and the show gets a pass. Just.
