The Taiwanese family of Eddie has shifted from Washington to Florida so they can own a steak restaurant. Each person in the family has different desires, whereas Eddie just wants to feel like he belongs in this new town.
Fresh Off the Boat is as capable as any other show of pointed critique, as this season's treatise on the perils of diminished representation demonstrated.
Fresh Off The Boat is capable of amazing thematic exploration -- not to mention banger jokes -- and I'm optimistic that they'll be able to hit, and surpass, the bar they've set.
But it looks like the series will continue to deliver consistent chuckles and cleverly subvert stereotypes of Asian American experience-even if they come wrapped in a fairly standard family-sitcom package.
