This season is set in the time of the World War 1 raging across Europe which also affected the house of Downton Abbey. It also shares the story of the Crawleys family and how their lives are complicated with their servants as a result of the war. A lot of events occur during this season which includes romance, betrayal, heartbreak, blackmail and scandals.
The good news is that the indomitable Maggie Smith is back as the dowager countess, who not only gets all the best lines, but also knows what to do with them.
Downton Abbey is still a fine, handsome entertainment, and if you inherently like this sort of thing more than I ever will, I imagine you'll be very happy to return there for the new season.
The show gets things right more often than it gets them wrong, especially as various story lines knit themselves together over the course of the season.
