Doctor Who - Season 9, Episode 6 The Woman Who Lived
Trailer
The ninth series of the British science fiction extends to an adventure of Vikings, Ghosts and the Daleks. Meanwhile the Doctor is faced with Missy who is ready to plague him again.
So my Let's Wait and See Plan after last week's episode did not pan out. It's not that there isn't some good stuff here. But where it ends up is too easy.
All things considered, "The Woman Who Lived" isn't terrible. But after "The Girl Who Died," this companion piece is something of a disappointment: a story that gestures at complexity but turns out to be rather simplistic.
It strains to work in all its ingredients. There are a lot of brilliant disparate elements here. But only occasionally do they meld into a cohesive, satisfying whole.
The episode makes good use of its weightier elements, using them to underline the indescribable loneliness of being the Doctor or Ashildr, and the pain that comes from knowing the finitude of everyone around you.
If last week's episode felt rushed, The Woman Who Died unfurled at a steady, considered pace. The story of Ashildr's life was given time to develop, to allow the enormity of living forever time to sink into the audience's consciousness.
