Doctor Who - Season 11, Episode 04: Arachnids in the UK
Trailer
The further adventures in time and space of the alien adventurer known as the Doctor, a Time Lord/Lady who can change appearance and gender, and his/her companions.
Leaving us with loose ends in this way, the episode either has a bad ending as a result of lazy writing, or could have deeper implications, perhaps lacking closure in the same way we lack a resolution for real damage to our ecosystem.
There's still so much excitement surrounding Doctor Who this season, and I've enjoyed so much of what Whittaker has brought to the role of the Doctor. Is it simply too much to ask that her co-stars be given the same opportunities to shine?
When all is said and done, it feels like there isn't an ending to this episode. It never reaches a strong climax and is just left to flounder as everyone makes their way back to the Tardis.
A lot of shonky critters have featured in Doctor Who. But these spiders are a dream (or nightmare), totally convincing, beautifully (or horribly) realized - depending on your phobia/philia.
Jodie Whittaker's quite a joy to watch too, and not because she's nailing being the Doctor yet. She's still getting there, and there's neither a reason to doubt that she will nor any question that she's right for the part.
Rosa wasn't subtle, but it was sometimes beautifully told. This was so heavy-handed that it came off as preachy, and didn't even give us anything good to go along with it...
'Arachnids in the UK' was an average episode of Doctor Who.However, the final moments of this episode were incredibly sweet, and we are now fully set up in regards to the dynamics of the show from this point on.
This episode fires on all cylinders: a horror movie for Halloween, snappy one liners, a simple but excellent monster of the week and some amazing guest characters.
