Boardwalk Empire - Season 5, Episode 03: What Jesus Said
Trailer
Nucky trying to expand his business before the Volstead act is lifted. However, after an attempt on his life he returns to New York to find out who tried to kill him. Later, Chalky returns looking for information on Narcisse in an effort to set Daughter free. Margaret';;s fragile job on Wall Street is threatened by her boss';;s suicide. Chalky White looks to exact revenge on Valentin Narcisse, and Eli Thompson is now working with Van Alden under Al Capone.
With only 5 episodes left, Nucky courts THAT patriarch from Nantucket, once again proving 'Empire' can weave real-life historical figures and fiction with aplomb.
"What Jesus Said" was a fine episode, though it still focused heavily on Nucky trying to hammer out that Bacardi deal -- this time, however, with a famous historical figure.
A nicely subtle exploration of the American dream through the prism of two men, Joe Kennedy and Chalky White, who seemed to have ended up on its opposite sides.
Sometimes you get an episode of TV that both does just what it sets out to do and manages to encompass several of the show's head-scratchers in the process.
My favorite familiar face though was Mickey Doyle. Against all odds he has made it through to the final season. A character who should be dead five times over, he never fails to deliver some laughs.
While the first two episodes were centered on Nucky Thompson, 'What Jesus Said' successfully splits its focus between Nucky and Chalky's threads in a way that strengthens them both.
