Like the ubiquitous Oldsmobile Delta 88, the Evil Dead franchise is getting on in years, and can be at times a little unwieldy on the road. But with the right driver behind the wheel it's also a reliable source of over-the-top violence and juvenile humor.
Sure, its core cast has basically remained the same, but the new additions give it a fresh feel that I hope will ultimately aid in the series' new direction.
Ash vs. Evil Dead ups the ante with even more bloody mayhem in season 3, giving Bruce Campbell and company plenty of chances to dazzle gore-hungry fans.
Put bluntly, this season is hitting all the checkmarks for what constitutes an Evil Dead story while also pushing the envelope farther than the series ever has with the things it's become known for.
If you thought Ash entering the body of a corpse via its sphincter couldn't be topped, wait until episode five. What happens is wrong in so many ways. It's wonderful.
