Story of Donald Crowhurst, the sailor who wanted to make a successful thing in his life to make his family proud of him. He struggles to return to them while they awaited his unknown return.
His story is a compelling one, but the film that tells the story doesn't do it full justice. It will be interesting to see if a rival film, Crowhurst, which was made on a much smaller budget, is more successful in this respect.
The heart-breaking true story of British amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst is told here in painstaking detail by director James Marsh who has succeeded in bringing us the saddest film we've seen in yonks. Nobody does noble failure like the Brits.
This is apointless adventure, as well as the same film focused on this pathetic adventure. (Complete review in Spanish, in the Mexican newspaper Reforma)
While The Mercy highlights the manipulative power of "alternative facts", Firth ensures we hold nothing but pity and compassion for this flawed, unhinged mariner.
