Hiding a dark secret from his best friend, Maurice Bendrix, a novelist, who had an affair with the wife of his best friend, whose life turns upside down, when his friend tells him that he suspects the treasury of his wife, as he begins to be close to her.
The characters are so unsympathetic, the adulterous love affair at the heart of the story so joyless, and the three main performances so mannered that it's hard to feel anything but disappointment and boredom.
