Celie is a shy and frightened woman whose life mostly involve running away from men who want to take advantage of her and how she tries to find herself after suffering 40 years of abuse.
It is unquestionably overwrought, but it is a truly lovely film with a lot of emotion in it. The meaning of all that emotion is unfortunately still up for grabs.
