During the wars that destroyed many cities in Britain and Germany, Rachel Morgan decided to move to the ruins of Hamburg in the bitter winter. In that city, Rachel meets her husband Lewis, the British colonel in charge of rebuilding the devastated city. After a short while and when they went to their new home, it seemed strange when Rachel discovered that Lewis had made an unexpected decision at that house. Now, they seem to be sharing the big house with their former owners, a German widower and his troubled daughter, digging things upside down.
