The film explores the story of an activist (Nat Wolff) who joined a workers' movement in California in the 1930s, where he had an extraordinary experience in his life. This political activist has been running a series of tasks based on a romantic sub-scheme for a worker, Lisa (Selena Gomez).
In Dubious Battle will likely slip by without anybody paying it much mind, and that's a shame. It deserves better than that, especially with the progression it shows in Franco as a director.
Franco clearly enjoys playing the idealistic rabble rouser, and who wouldn't want to direct a movie so they could cast themselves as a charismatic radical? Unfortunately, watching someone else play make believe is only fun if you believe it yourself.
