Documentary film presents the life story of the hero Eddie Eagle, who embodies the role of Michael Edwards. Eddie is a brave British skate champion, who may not have trusted his abilities one day since his inception. But after a long time, a rebellious coach began helping Michael, taking him to the institution and trying to teach him many tasks. In a short time, he was able to win the hearts of sports fans around the world by making a historic presentation at the Winter Olympics in Calgary in 1988, without fear or hesitation.
For every easy, eye-rolling bit, there's a moment of genuine emotion; the champion jumper's pre-climax speech on what matters in sport is downright joyful.
With his milk-bottle glasses, jutting chin and fuzzy moustache, plucky British ski jumper Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards... remains an endearing figure of fun in this feel-good sporting romp.
Though it aims for heroism, Edwards' story doesn't have a dramatic enough arc to be truly inspirational. It's not about winning, it's an ode to participation, which isn't enough for it to get off the ground.
