In an attempt to save his country, Netherlands, this movie follows the struggles of a courageous leader, Michiel de Ruyter. He does his best to defend his country from the attack of England and France.
Frank Lammers gives a surprisingly understated performance as Michiel de Ruyter. Though he has his moments of fury and agony, his usual countenance is one of weariness and concealment.
The dialog talks down a little to the viewers who are intended in large part to be school students, but it pays the viewer back in thrilling visual images.
