The movie centers on a young suicidal and rebellious teen who is sent for the summer to her grandparents. There her summer romance with an ambitious cook is threatened when her grandparents voice concern about her new boyfriend's criminal history.
Small screen hottie Hilary Duff moves on from her kid celebrity roots carved out on Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, to not exactly Juno looking for lust here, but excelling in a vocal talent for snotty teen talk that's as anti-grownup as can be.
Misfires when it should've soared, and while Hilary Duff gives the role a forceful middle-finger twinkle, it's wasted on unsophisticated ABC Family leftovers.
