Nicola Nikki Wade is the epitome of justice misserved. Brought to prison for killing the policeman who was attempting to rape her girlfriend, Nikki had a swift and quick trial that was designed to make an example of cop killers. Testimonies and evidence were supressed and Nikki was given a life-sentence to serve in HMP Larkhall. In prison Nikki has grown hard around the edges, isolating herself from most other prisoners; with a few exceptions. Nikki is quick to stand-up for what's right (especially when she sees injustice inflicted on other prisoners) and takes an almost maniacle pleasure in pushing the buttons of Principal Officer Jim Fenner. Helen Stewart seems to be the only person in Larkhall able to keep Nikki at bay (in more ways than one), primarily because Helen treats Nikki like a human being, and respects her incredible intelligence and voracious reading and gardening past-times.
