Dr Bellows is the psychologist assigned the NASA astronaut programme and it's his job that those designated to be sent into space on America's behalf are the best and most stable people the air-force has to offer. He has to deal with the seemingly impossible events that occur with depressing regularity around Majors Nelson and Healey.
