Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, was the 5th Tokugawa Shgun from 1680 to 1709, he was born 1646 in Edo, and died in 1709, early in his reign he became very religious, and actively promoted the Neo-Confucianism teachings of Zhu Xi, his reign was a golden era of classic Japanese art, known as the Genroku era.
