Laura Winslow is the middle child, and daughter of parents, Carl and Harriette Winslow, and was born in 1976, Chicago, Illinois. Laura has an older brother, Eddie, a little sister named Judy, and eventually an adopted little brother named 3J. During the early years of the series, Laura was the smart-alec, know-it-all child of the Winslows. In both junior high and high school, Laura was a straight-A student; her goal was to enroll in the Harvard Law School.In many ways, Laura was the antithesis of Eddie; whereas she showed good judgment when temptation arose, Eddie would often get into trouble. However, more than once the rebellious side of Laura arose: She broke curfew at least once (prompting Harriette, with curlers in her hair, to come to a late-night party and drag her home); she and a group of friends obtained fake IDs to get into a strip club; and although she was not a heavy drinker, she once drank to the point of nearly passing out. Laura will often give Eddie advice.In an early episode, titled The Quilt, Laura learned about responsibility when she accidentally sold a museum curator her grandmother's family heirloom, a quilt that had been in the family for more than 200 years. Laura sees that Mother Winslow (who manages to veil her extreme disappointment) has been hurt, Laura goes to great lengths to get the quilt back, and gives a tearful plea to the curator; although the curator tries not to let emotion get in the way, she eventually agrees to give it back. When she and Carl return home with the heirloom, an elated Mother Winslow (after telling the story of the quilt) sees that Laura has learned to become responsible and lets her keep it in her room.In addition to being an outstanding student, Laura was involved in cheerleading; several episodes revolve around her participation in the activity.Her main friends were in season 1, Penny Peyser and both treated Steve the way they did. This was because she (like Rodney) was far more intolerant to him. The only time, she was concerned for Urkel's safety, was when he stood up to season 1's school bully, Bull Weston, in refusing to give up his lunch money to him and rather face serious injury other than to demean himself further by giving him the money.Starting in Season 2 and beyond, she had gained friendship with both Maxine Johnson and Urkel. However, unlike Penny, Maxine was a lot more nicer and friendly to Steve (mostly because he was both her and Waldo's friend). Laura is also close friends to Greta McClure, Eddie's current girlfriend and always went to her when she was having problems with her father and didn't want him to get involved with.Urkel was mainly in love with her since childhood and it annoyed her very much and tried to set him up with Susie(season 2, one-time girlfriend) and Myra Monkhouse(from season 4-9 and has later become her adversary). She has dated him, but those were out of pity. She has also dated around with other guys, but most of her would-be suitors are failures at chasing Urkel away from her(than Greta was at chasing Myrtle). However, this was because most of the guys that she dated were real jerks to her and it justified Steve's action in warding them off because he knows that she deserves to be treated with respect. In season 5, Urkel had created an alter ego named Stefan Urquelle and she was instantly in love with him. Steve created Stefan so that he could finally realize his dream of capturing Laura's heart. The Stefan-Laura relationship bloomed for several years, and at one point the two are nearly married at Walt Disney World Resort. In season 6, she was also able to have some space away from Urkel's pursuit of her, thanks to his girlfriend, Myra, in doing her a favor by demanding him to stay loyal to her. It did some good as she distracted him from his borderline pursuit of her, long enough for Laura to see how true his feeling for her are and for them to get close without the worry of harrassmentHowever, as the years wore on, Laura's feelings for Urkel began to change. Like the rest of her family, she warmed up to Urkel and accepted him as a loyal and true friend. Much like her father and her brother, Laura had a chance to see what it was like to walk in Urkel's shoes (i.e., getting yelled at for clumsiness and being a perceived pest in Season 4, Episode 10: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Urkel after her guardian angel, Tyrone Ty Jackson, was fed up with her mistreatment towads him), gaining an appreciation of the nerd.At one point during the series' final season, Laura agrees to accompany Urkel to a polka festival, where instead of becoming annoyed once and for all at Urkel's interests and larger-than-life friends she realizes that Urkel is the man her heart was after all along. The two are eventually engaged, but not until after Laura makes a heart-wrenching decision on whether to marry Urkel or Stefan. Which Carl had hoped that she and Stefan would marry and Steve goes back to dating Myra.In the series' finale, when Urkel goes into outer space (and his well-being is in jeopardy), Laura constantly watches television reports about the endangered space mission. Eventually, Urkel salvages the space mission and returns home to his first (and only) love: Laura. She makes Urkel promise never to go into outer space again, to which Urkel replies, Only when we kiss would he do so. Show less «
