In the book, Tardos Mors is the father of Jed Mors Kajak, grandfather of Dejah Thoris, and the Jeddak or ruler of Helium. He is held in the highest regard by his people and is not afraid to go into battle as necessary. He is described in A Princess of Mars as: an almost perfect specimen of manhood, tall, straight as an arrow, superbly muscled and with the carriage and bearing of a ruler of men. In the movie they skip a generation and Tardos Mors is the father of Dejah Thoris but keeps his role as Jeddak of Helium. He is a valiant warrior in the movie and does endorse, albeit very reluctantly, the proposed marriage between Sab Than and Dejah Thoris in an effort to end the war between Helium and Zodanga.
