Rosaline is the girl that a heartsick Romeo is pining for when he meets Juliet in the play Romeo and Juliet . Although she does not appear in the play, she does in several film versions. In Shakespeare in Love , she is the live-in mistress of Richard Burbage, and the sometime-girlfriend of William Shakespeare.
