Ruth Ellingham, played by Eileen Atkins, is Doc Martin's aunt. We first meet her when she arrives at Aunt Joan's funeral in season 5. Back in London, Aunt Ruth is a clinical psychiatrist at Broadmore where she assesses the criminally insane. While she shares many of Martin's personality traits she also displays wisdom and wit.
