What was once a simple raven, Diaval caught the attention of Maleficent. She chose to make him her closest advisor, sending him out on missions to collect information about Stefan and his kingdom. Maleficent, alone, can transform him from bird to man and back again, at her whim. He becomes a version of conscience for his queen.
