Gru's mother is a European woman who is a Kung Fu artist and has no confidence in Gru whatsoever. Parts of the film show flashes of Gru's childhood, which include Gru sharing his incredible dreams and accomplishments with his mother only to be responded with an eh. She has strict morals and teaches Gru to expect nothing from life.
