Max Black grew up poor and had a terrible childhood. Her dysfunctional past still affects her in her relationships, especially with men. She is sarcastic, tough, street smart, and has a quick wit. She works at the Williamsberg Diner, she lives with Caroline Channing and she is the baker in her and Caroline's plan to open up a cupcake business.
