The Mechanist is an inventor and engineer who, along with his son Teo, was displaced by a flood in the Earth Kingdom who comes to settle at the deserted Northern Air Temple during the Hundred Year War. He is forced by the Fire Nation to build devices and machines to aid them in war. Among his inventors are a modified version of the airbenders' gliders (used by his son after he is made paraplegic in the flood), steam-powered battle takes and a war balloon. He meets Team Avatar at the temple when they arrive hoping to find surviving Air Nomads.
