Laizhi Zheng

Laizhi Zheng was born in Yinan County, Shandong Province, the hometown of Confucius and Mencius. He developed a passion for literature when he was a small boy and gained a passion for film after he graduated from China's top film school, the Beijing Film Academy. He has a younger brother with the same passion who became an actor. In 2007, his first film, a short named Disaster, was selected into the Short Films Section of the 60th Festival De Cannes. In the same year, he was the assistant director for the film-Dou Niu (2009)_. In 2008, he made his first feature film Beautiful Sunset. He also made two documentaries. One is about Yimeng, a place famous for being the revolutionary base in China's liberation movement. The second is about the contemporary poet Jingzhi He. In 2012, thanks to his balanced combination of artistic and commercial elements, _Love Motel (2012)_ generated US $3 million at the box office, which was a very good return for a low budget film.
