Melis was born in San Francisco to a Turkish/Azerbaijani mother and Turkish/Macedonian father. She was raised in Ankara, Turkey until the age of 18, after which she pursued her education overseas where she received her B.A. in Drama with a minor in Philosophy from Tufts University in Boston, and an Acting certificate from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She currently resides in New York primarily as a playwright in training and a professional Equity actress.Melis has been interviewed by Turkish television through Voice of America and the Hurriyet Newspaper as one of the up-and-coming young artists of her generation. Her background in New York, international and regional theatre includes "Love in Afghanistan" by Charles Randolph-Wright which was performed at the Arena Stage (D.C.) and read at the Roundabout Theatre (NY), "The Wishing Tree" by Mustafa Kaymak at the Signature Theatre through Columbia Stages (NY), "I Capture the Castle," "Double Indemnity," and "These Shining Lives" at Stoneham Theatre (Boston), "Proof" at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (U.K.), Henry V at R.A.D.A. (U.K.), "Top Girls" at the Bilkent Laboratory (Turkey), and numerous workshops and readings throughout (provided upon request of full resume).Melis is currently working with Studio 42 and Young Pals Music developing her original music and EP respectively.
